I don’t know if these things are related or just pure coincidence but I was checking my StatCounter and someone came to my site Thursday by searching, “UFO IN MARTINSVILLE INDIANA” I thought it was very interesting and didn’t think much of it, then later I was reading the DrudgeReport and I came across a story titled, “Meteor blast/explosion over Indiana…” This got me thinking if these were related in some way so I read the above story in the Indianapolis Star.
Based on the story, what people saw were F-16′s on a training mission near Kokomo, IN. Supposedly, these F-16′s were dropping flares as part of their training and one of the jets pushed the speed and caused a sonic boom that shook the ground. The Fort Wayne Journal Gazette confirms this story from the AP (Associated Press)
There are other sources like the Lafayette Journal & Courier and the blog The Chicagoist claim it was a meteor that broke up in the earth’s atmosphere.
What ever it was it cause many people to get scared and area 911 dispatch centers were flooded with calls like the one in Howard Co. that took 146 phone calls with in a 15 min. time frame between 10:25 p.m. and 10:40 p.m.
I bet local TV stations also got flooded with phone calls. I know from experience that when strange lights appear in the night sky we would receive several phone calls. Some with questions and some with theories.
So how does the “UFO” work into the equation? Well just from the search terms, plus Kokomo is 90 miles north of Martinsville and about 60 miles north of Indianapolis. If this was a meteor fireball most of Indiana would probably see it along with several other states.
My money is on the Indiana air national guard doing drills that night, but still a very interesting story and coincidences.

I have no basis for comparision, however I believe it was a meteor. Last night, my friend and I were driving home from GA. It was about 1a and we were right around Henderson Ky./Evansville IN. High in the sky, north of us, a bright light suddenly started to fall. Initially, we assumed it was a “falling star”, but it looked nothing like any falling star we had ever seen. It was heading in a downward direction and the lower it got the less bright it was, but then we could see a bright green light almost all around it, and as that faded whatever was falling appeared red and then fading out. Just like an amber from a fire would. I have no clue what it was, but I found your article when I was searching to see if anyone else had witnessed it, and thought I’d give my 2 cents

I was on the way home from the track at about 2am May 26,2008. On 70 East, right by the MLK exit, I was having a conversation with my boyfriend when all of a sudden I saw a round disc up in the sky. It had a circle in its middle. The way it moved forward was fast and almost strobe-like. It would skip forward almost as if gliding, and light up a clear trasparent blue with each advance. I had never seen anything like it. I am sure someone else had to see it up in the sky over Indianapolis?

I drive at nights, and I don’t know how common it is or not, but I see at least 2 to 3 meteorites a week, sometimes more. I was just wondering if this was normal or not

Traveling North on US 69 halfway between Anderson and Fort Wayne. Around 3:30 a.m. November 23, 2008. I saw a meteor in the northwestern sky.
