Over on the WX-Man.com Advisory Page I got a comment from a visitor:
Brian,
I’ve enjoyed your blog. Looks very good. Might I suggest a link to the monthly/seasonal snow totals?
Jeff
Jeff is not alone. I get hundreds of hits from people looking for past weather data & information for Erie and other places in Pennsylvania, U.S. and the world. Here are some of the Keywords I get:
- Past Weather History
- weather history erie pa
- erie weather history
- erie pa climate history
- erie snowfall total
- erie pa climate summary
- erie pa snow total
- erie pa. record snow fall in history
- erie snowfall records
- top ten snowfall totals for erie,pa
- erie snowfall 2006-2007
- snowfall data erie pa
- erie county, pa/ weather records
You get the general idea. People want to know this information. Above is just a sampling. To accommodate, I have posted the 2006/2007 season snowfall total for Erie on the right sidebar under “Climatology” There are also links to the Past Erie Weather Page There you can find links to Normal and Record Temperatures For Erie, PA and Weather Records For Erie, PA like the Top 10 Monthly Snowfall, Precipitation, and Temperatures. There is also a link to the Pennsylvania State Climate/Weather Data.
Jeff said, “Might I suggest a link to the monthly/seasonal snow totals?” Unfortunately there are no pages I am aware of that have just that information, but there are a lot of places you can find that data, along with other monthy weather data.
A lot of people want more specific information, like totals for a specific month or year in Erie, PA. For monthly weather summaries for 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000 you can go to the Erie, PA Climate Page from the NWS in Cleveland, (It looks similar to the Erie Climate Page I made)
For years beyond 1997, it will be harder to find a good FREE page with that information, but if you are looking for montly summaries for Erie from 2001 to present you can go to the Local Climate Page from the Nation Weather Service in Cleveland. There you can get Daily Climate Report, Monthly Climate Data, Record Event Report, Monthly Weather Summary, and a Regional Weather Summary for all the locations in their County Warning Area. The cities in their area are Cleveland, Toledo, Mansfield, Akron/Canton, & Youngstown Ohio. In Pennsylvania they only have infor for Erie.
Each Weather Service Office will have some kind of Climate Data available on their site. All you need to know is which office covers your county and then do some searching on their site. Some NWS offices are easy to navigate others take a little more digging. Feel free to ask questions in the climate
