East Coast Soaking on the Way

Brian Neudorff @ 12:06 pm December 2nd, 2009 · No Comments

A storm system moving out of the Gulf of Mexico and the southern United States will spread a large plume of moisture northward from the Mississippi Valley into New England over the next 24 hours. All this moisture will cause some major flooding from the Southeast into the Mid-Atlantic states with as much as 1 to 3 inches of rain with locally more in some locations.

Closer to the Great Lakes and locations west of the Appalachians, rain will still fall and be steady from Wednesday afternoon into Thursday afternoon as the rain reaches New England and Ontario. Most of the rain amounts won’t be that high. Here in Western New York and into Western Pennsylvania amounts could be from a half an inch all the way to an inch on average. Of course there will be and always are a few locations that get more.

The big story behind this storm will be the colder air that arrives. This could mean some lake effect snows across the Great Lakes this weekend. So stay tuned.
