Last years race at Chicago has to be known for 2 things. 1) all the storms and rain that took place leading up to the race that week, and 2) the most spectacular sunset I’ve seen watching a race EVER. (Personal note: Glad I was watching a HD TV during the race)

So will history repeat itself or will we get a race where the word “Rain” is not uttered by the announcers on TV. Because of 4th of July activities I didn’t watch the race but from tweets I saw, apparently the announcers were talking about lightning in the distance. If they had seen my forecast they would have known rain was not going to be a threat. So what does THIS week hold for the LifeLock.com 400?

An area of high pressure will build into northern Illinois Thursday this should allow for a dry practice and for those drivers that NEED to qualify on speed actually have a chance to make the race. Thursday night into Friday morning an approaching cold front will bring some showers and thunderstorms, these showers could be a threat going into Friday night and possibly Saturday morning but it appears this front drops far enough south, as of now, that it looks like a dry afternoon and evening going into Saturday night.

Like last week where rain is likely everyday in Florida in July the same can be said for the Midwest during the month of July. I know I grew up in Indiana in the shadow of Indianapolis and July is also the peak month for thunderstorm activity. I will be honest I don’t think we are out of the woods yet when it comes to rain this weekend but as of now (Wednesday Evening) it looks optimistic.
