FORECAST DISCUSSION Thursday 9:00 am EDT:

There is a stalled frontal boundary across the central Indiana today. This could help focus some development of scattered showers and thunderstorms later on this afternoon.

Friday features some very hot weather out at the tracks as temperatures soar into the mid 90s. It will be very muggy so it will easily feel like it is in the upper 90s or low 100s during the afternoon. If you will be out for practice and qualifying just use common sense, stay hydrated and take it easy. Also use sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun’s UV rays. All shower activity should remain north of Indiana so not worried about showers or storms Friday afternoon and evening.

Saturday starts off dry but it will also be very warm, again. Not as hot but highs will be in the upper 80s to near 90. A slow moving cold front will be dropping south and this looks like showers and storms will be a concern from the afternoon into the evening. This would have an impact on Sprint Cup practice from 2pm until 5pm and also the Nationwide race over at O’Reilly Raceway Park at 7:30pm. Skies & Radar will need to be monitored late in the day.

Sunday is where things get a little more complicated. Timing of this front is key on when showers and storms end and clearing skies begin. My current thought is showers and storms are possible through mid morning then we could start to see some clearing with mild temperatures but with less humid air. That is why I am mentioning showers & t’storms in the forecast for at least the first half of Sunday.
