FORECAST UPDATE Thursday 2:00 PM EDT:
General thinking for this weekend at Kansas Speedway is it is mostly dry. It will be windy as a strong trough coming out of the Pacific northwest interacts with a ridge of high pressure currently over the Ohio Valley. Some wind gust could be 30 to 40 mph. Where the ridge and trough collide there will also be shower and storm development through the center of the country. Many of the models bring the rain to central Kansas and then stall it for the weekend. There are a few that bring it closer to eastern Kansas.
I feel the rain is a little too close for comfort. That is why I decided to mention it on Sunday when other forecasts are not. Like last week, the same places (AccuWeather, Weather.com and National Weather Service) had dry weather for Dover on Sunday. NASCAR got the race in but there were a couple of cautions due to light sprinkles. Just because I mention rain doesn’t mean it will happen I just feel it is important that you know exactly what I see and think, along with all scenarios possible for the upcoming race weekend.
