2012 Richmond International Raceway NASCAR Weather Forecast: Chance Of Rain Saturday NIght

0

FORECAST UPDATE THURSDAY 6 a.m. EDT (4/26/2012):

Another NASCAR weekend and another challenging forecast. Warm front lifts to the north during the day Thursday. This will help to spread in showers and potentially thunderstorms during the afternoon. There could even be some breaks in the clouds for some sunshine that would spark storm formation in the afternoon. Off and on times of rain are possible today.

The same front that brought warm temperatures will drop south as a cold front Thursday night with more showers into early Friday morning. As the front pushes south it looks like Friday and Friday night could be relatively quiet. We may have fair and dry conditions on Friday night for the Nationwide race.

Saturday is when things get tricky. It’s timing different impulses that will ride along the stalled front to the south. Also if the front meanders a little more to the north showers and maybe a few storms could be possible Saturday and Saturday night. This will have to be watched closely because any rain Saturday night for the Sprint Cup race will be dependent on where that front is when if any of the forecasted energy arrives that rides along that stalled boundary.

So right now I am going to keep a chance of showers in the forecast. I will keep you updated over the next few days and into the weekend.

2012 Kansas Speedway Weather Forecast: Rain Drops Saturday?

0

FORECAST UPDATE SATURDAY 4 a.m. EDT (4/21/2012):

Most of the time this weekend at Kansas Speedway it will be mostly dry but there’s just a very slight chance of a passing sprinkle or shower later today.

Weak disturbance coming out of the northern plains will clip the region as it moves to the southeast during the day. Clouds will increase and could possibly produce a brief passing sprinkle or maybe a shower. Most of the day Saturday should be rain free and I wouldn’t be surprised if the entire time was dry.

The rest of the time will feature sun and clouds with cool spring temperatures. Both today and Sunday highs will be in the upper 60s to near 70. There will be a slight breeze Sunday with gust near 20 mph.

2012 Kansas Speedway Weather Forecast: Poss. Strong Storms Thursday Nice Looking Weekend

0

FORECAST UPDATE THURSDAY 1 a.m. EDT (4/19/2012):

The only weather concern for Kansas Speedway is Thursday afternoon. Practices for NASCAR Sprint Cup and Camping World Truck Series don’t start until Friday but for those around on Thursday evening some storms that form could be strong and potentially severe. The main threat with any storms would be large hail, damaging winds, and even an isolated tornado or two. If severe weather presents itself I will keep you updated.

Most of the stormy activity should take place out ahead of an approaching cold front. Once the cold front moves through Thursday night, it will be breezy and significantly cooler for Friday and the weekend.

Friday through Sunday looks like great weather for NASCAR racing. The only issue I can find is it will be cool. Lows each morning will be in the 40s and highs only getting into the upper 50s on Friday to the upper 60s to near 70 on Sunday. Each day features mostly sunny skies with the only windy day on Friday. Enjoy the weekend.

Timing Severe Texas

2012 Texas Motor Speedway Saturday Night Race Day Weather Forecast: Most Storms Stay Away

0

The above image is from the National Weather Service Office in Dallas/Fort Worth:

A powerful upper level storm system will approach the region Saturday and bring a chance of severe thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening….generally from Oklahoma through Nebraska. Thunderstorms will move into North Texas after midnight with storm chances increasing from west to east through the day Sunday. Some storms may be severe with large hail…damaging winds and isolated tornadoes.

FORECAST UPDATE SATURDAY 3 AM EDT (4/14/2012):
The forecast remains on track for Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Samsung Mobile 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. The main severe weather threat on Saturday will be to the northwest of Dallas-Fort Worth through Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska Saturday afternoon and evening. You can read more on this life threatening threat in Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska and how to prepare in my previous post.

Wind advisory is in effect for north Texas including the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex from 9am CDT until 7pm CDT Saturday. Winds out of the south will be sustained 20 to 30 mph gusting to near 40 at times during the late morning, afternoon and evening. Most of the day will be dry with a mixture of sunshine and clouds and high temperatures in the low 80s.

As we head into the late afternoon and evening there is just a very small chance of an isolated thunderstorm but it appears that most of the time if not all of the evening should remain dry and storm free. If a lone storm were to form, it would need to be watched because it could have the potential to be strong to severe. This likelihood is very small and I remain confident that we get the NASCAR Sprint Cup Samsung Mobile 500 started and finished Saturday night. Just to be safe I will be tracking all the development on radar through the afternoon and evening and update this site, SBNation.com, Twitter and Facebook as needed.

Threat for Severe Weather 0414

Major Severe Weather Outbreak Expected Saturday & Saturday Night Across Southern Plains

1

All the ingredients are coming together for a significant outbreak of severe weather Saturday and Saturday night across the Southern Plains. Locations expected to see the worse are from eastern Nebraska, into central Kansas and Oklahoma. From Lincoln, NE down to Wichita Kansas, including Oklahoma City, OK and down into Wichita Falls, TX. For all those living in or around the pink and red areas in the image above this is a LIFE THREATENING scenario with a significant tornado outbreak Saturday afternoon and Saturday night.

If you live in and around this area PLANNING STARTS NOW!!! Know where you will go if a tornado warning is issued for your town. Find the lowest most interior location location. If you live in a modular home, trailer, apartment complex find another place to be tomorrow afternoon. Call friends or family and see if you can wait out this storm with them if they have a house and a basement.

GET A ALL HAZARDS WEATHER RADIO AND A FULLY CHARGED CELL PHONE… This could be your primary source for weather information if you were to lose power. Most who live in these areas have a radio but if you don’t go get one. If you live in a severe weather prone area, a weather radio is just as important as a smoke detector in your home. It can and does save lives.

For the cell phone my followers and readers have an opportunity to get a severe weather app designed to send push notifications to your iPhone. If you are in the National weather Service warning polygon it will notify you directly to your phone for Severe Thunderstorms warnings and watches, Tornado Warnings and Watches as well as Flood Warning and Watches.

KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A WATCH AND A WARNING!!! This can and will save your life. SEVERE WEATHER WATCH (Severe Thunderstorm or Tornado) will be issued hours in advance of any developing severe storms. It means severe weather is possible to form and you need to monitor the weather closely for the potential development later in the day.

SEVERE WEATHER WARNING (Thunderstorm or Tornado) means severe weather IS OCCURING NOW OR IT’S JUST MINUTES AWAY FROM OCCURING and you need to SEEK SHELTER NOW!!!

From the Dallas-Fort Worth NWS office:

A significant severe weather outbreak is expected across parts of the Southern Plains on Saturday evening into Saturday night. The worst of the severe weather is expected to be across parts of Oklahoma and Kansas where a tornado outbreak is expected. In North Texas…severe storms will be possible very late Saturday night into Sunday. Isolated tornadoes…damaging winds and large hail will be possible. In addition…locally heavy rainfall can be expected. The highest rain chances for North Texas will be during the day Sunday.

HOW WILL THIS IMPACT THE TEXAS NASCAR RACE?

Overall the forecast hasn’t change much since last night for the Dallas-Fort Worth area Saturday night. The main threat of severe storms and potential tornadoes remains well to the northwest of Texas Motor Speedway.

There is a threat of an isolated to possibly scattered storms around Texas Motor Speedway for the Sprint Cup Samsung Mobile 500. Any storm that could or possible form has the potential to be severe with gusty winds and large hail. Although the risk is there the likelihood for anything to form or occur before or during the race is low and I feel we should get the race started and finished Saturday night. Just keep in mind one storm or shower could cause a delay I feel confident we can get this in.

Severe Weather Threat Texas Saturday Night

2012 Texas Motor Speedway Weather Forecast: Storm Threat Is Low Saturday Night

0

FORECAST UPDATE FRIDAY 3 AM EDT (4/13/2012):

The above image is from the National Weather Service Office in Dallas/Fort Worth. Their thinking has been inline with what I’ve been saying and thinking for Saturday night’s Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway:

A vigorous upper level system will continue to trudge across the Rockies through the end of the week…before slowly exiting over the Central and Southern Plains over the weekend. A moderate risk of severe storms will occur across central Oklahoma into southeast Kansas by Saturday evening. The tail-end of the forcing will work along an approaching dryline near northwestern North Texas to provide the best lift for scattered severe storms containing large hail, damaging winds, isolated tornadoes, and frequent lightning late evening and overnight Saturday. How much the cap weakens and lifts and how far east will play a role on timing and placement of where storms sustain. Activity will become more in the form of a squall line toward Sunday morning as a low level jet feeds into the system overnight with heavy rainfall to between in excess of 2 to 3 inches in spots becoming a threat on Sunday, along with a continued severe weather threat depending if the system slows down or not.

Like the NWS I think the worst of the weather takes place to the north and northwest of Dallas-Fort Worth Saturday night leaving just a chance of isolated showers and storms. Because of the proximity to the higher risk of severe weather some of the stray storms that form could be strong to potentiall severe Saturday night but currently the odds are in NASCAR’s favor to get Saturday night’s race completed.

For Friday night’s Nationwide race, it will be breezy, variably cloudy and temperatures in the mid 70s.

2012 Texas Motor Speedway Weather Forecast: Potential Severe Weather Threat

0

FORECAST UPDATE TUESDAY 3 AM EDT (4/12/2012):

I think the risk for a severe weather outbreak Saturday night during the NASCAR Sprint Cup race is low. Most of this forecast Friday night and Saturday looks mostly dry. Yes, all the reports you are seeing from other outlets are correct, there is a severe weather threat this weekend for north Texas, including Dallas/ Fort Worth. From what I am seeing, it appears that threat is later in the weekend going into Sunday and not Saturday.

DISCLAIMER: Just because I think the worst and the main severe threat is on Sunday rather than Saturday that doesn’t mean there isn’t a threat of storms and that some could be severe on Saturday. I am fully planning on watching the radar Saturday afternoon for any develop that could threaten the start or any part of the race at Texas Motor Speedway.

There is a threat of severe storms in Texas on Saturday and at this point it appears to be more west and northwest of Forth Worth extending into Oklahoma. The threat is close enough that storms could stray into the area and would need to be monitored.

For Friday and the Nationwide race, I expect a mostly dry with just a very small chance of an isolated storm.

2012 Texas Motor Speedway Weather Forecast: Storm Development A Concern This Weekend

0

FORECAST UPDATE TUESDAY 3 PM EDT (4/10/2012):

Before I could even look at this weekend’s NASCAR weather forecast at Texas Motor Speedway my Twitter stream was getting a lot of questions about the potential for severe weather this weekend around Dallas/Fort Worth. I agree with preliminary reports that this weekend could feature the potential for severe storms, the biggest challenge and question is the timing of when this activity could form and arrive.

Most of the time this week will feature mostly dry conditions with highs ranging from the mid to upper 70s with 80s by the weekend. By Friday we will be watching and trying to time the arrival of a few disturbances that could cause shower and storm development Friday, Saturday and Saturday night. A lot of this we won’t have specific information on until areas of showers and storms begin to form or we start to see development of storms. I am going to mention the chance of showers and storms around Texas Motor Speedway Friday and Saturday but there are some indications that this time frame is more dry than wet.

I am concerned anytime there is a threat of severe weather especially when it corrisponds with an outdoor sporting event. The threat is there for Northern and Eastern Texas sometime this weekend but timing of its development is still unknown. There is still a lot of time for things to change between now and then.

If I was going this weekend to Texas Motor Speedway I wouldn’t let the current forecast keep me home. I feel this will be an ever changing forecast with frequent updates. I will also have a Rockingham
