FORECAST UPDATE SUNDAY 3 AM ET:

I am still keeping the mention of an isolated rain shower in the race day weather forecast for Texas Motor Speedway.  Moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will stream into north Texas allowing for skies to be mostly cloudy for most of the day Sunday. Some places could see a light sprinkle or even pockets of drizzle Sunday morning. This activity looks very limited.

As the day wears on, some sunshine could peek out from behind the clouds. This warming could spark an isolated shower or storm during the afternoon but the best chance for any showers or storms looks like it would occur towards Sunday evening and Sunday night.

I don’t think there is much to worry about here as far as the rain threat goes. I am not going to definitively say it will not rain because there is enough there for a stray or isolated shower to form or occur but I think the likelihood is very small for Sunday. I don’t see reason why NASCAR doesn’t get a full race in on Sunday.

SUNDAY:
3  p.m EDT
Sprint Cup Race – Mostly cloudy, some sun, slight chance of a shower or storm – temp: 70

FORECAST UPDATE Friday 3 AM EDT:

My focus for this forecast is on Sunday. A storm system will develop in the plains and move north, allowing for moisture to stream into North Texas from the Gulf of Mexico. Moisture alone won’t cause rain, you need something to cause “lift” in the atmosphere. Although there will be moisture available for rain to form there isn’t that trigger to cause lift and make showers.

I am not ruling rain out completely, but the likelihood that rain will form is very low for Sunday’s Sprint Cup Race. A lone shower could form and cause delays but I am not confident that will happen. I am just mentioning it cause it is a possibility. Other than that the forecast for Nationwide and Trucks looks very good, sunny and dry.

FORECAST UPDATE THURSDAY 3 AM EDT:
We’ve heard the sayings before, “Just schedule a NASCAR race in places that have droughts and it will end it” Because after awhile it feels like it rains every weekend even though only a small percentage of Sprint Cup Races have actually been rained out this year. Although Texas in the midst of one of its worst droughts in decades, there’s a Sprint Cup race on Sunday and there is a small threat of storms the same day.

I am only mentioning a slight chance of a thunderstorm forming Sunday. There will be a stalled front across the area and there could be enough of a disturbance along with some Gulf moisture to trigger an isolated storm or two. I am not very confident that will happen or that these storms (if they form) are a concern at all, but it is better safe than sorry.
