2013 NASCAR Weather Forecast At Michigan International Speedway: It Will Rain but Races Should Remain Dry
The main weather concern this weekend at Michigan International Speedway is the arrival of showers and possible thunderstorms later this afternoon and timing their exit Sunday morning.
Most of the today will be dry but showers and storms coming out of the Plains and northern Great Lakes could arrive across southern Michigan anytime after 2 p.m. EDT. At this time I don’t expect rain to arrive until after the NASCAR Nationwide race this afternoon.
The above image is a Hi-Resolution forecast model from this morning into Sunday afternoon. It shows rain arriving around Michigan International Speedway between 4 and 6 p.m. EDT and then exiting late morning on Sunday. I am about 80% confident that we see rain free racing for both the Nationwide race today and the Sprint Cup race on Sunday. The 20% of doubt is for the rain threat later this afternoon.
The only problem for Sunday is when does the rain finally end and will it end in time to dry the track so that the Sprint Cup race can start on time. The good news is once the rain ends Sunday morning, it will dry out and become partly to mostly sunny.

2013 Iowa Speedway NASCAR Nationwide Race Day Weather Forecast Take 2
Rain washed out Saturday night’s NASCAR Nationwide race, so they will try it again today before the NASCAR Sprint Cup race in Pocono. While here are no weather problems for the Sprint Cup series, rain remains a concern for the Nationwide race this morning in Iowa. Storm system moving though the region will keep the threat of rain through the start of the race, with scattered showers and storms possible in the afternoon. While the rain threat continues for Iowa and the Nationwide race, I think NASCAR has a better shot of getting the Nationwide race in today, but don’t be surprised if there’s at least one rain delay or possible threat from a shower or storm.

2013 Iowa Speedway NASCAR Nationwide Race Day Weather Forecast

Need to hit refresh to refresh the Radar image…
I will admit I messed up this NASCAR Nationwide forecast. I spread myself out to thin this week and I overlooked when the race in Iowa was going to run. I was looking at afternoon not Saturday night. As of noon EDT (11:00 a.m. CDT) rain was already in the western part of Iowa moving slowly towards Iowa Speedway. Anticipate rain showers arriving sometime between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. EDT (5 p.m. and 7 p.m. CDT).
Once the rain and thunderstorms arrive, it could cause a long delay or possibly postpone the race. It will all come down to when the rain arrives and it’s not looking all that promising. To tell the truth, I am not as optimistic about the forecast this evening now given all I am looking at. The odds of getting this race completely finished or to halfway is around 30 to 40%. Bottom line it is going to come down to when the rain arrives later today or this evening.

2013 Dover International Speedway NASCAR Race Day Weather Forecast
I expect the NASCAR Sprint Cup race today at Dover International Speedway will be mostly dry and continued very warm and humid, like it’s been all weekend. Highs this afternoon once again up into the mid to upper 80s.
The only concern with the forecast is an approaching cold front. This has been mentioned the last couple of days but it appears timing is still on the side of NASCAR. The showers and possible storms are not expected to arrive in Dover until late afternoon, more like early afternoon. The main concern for storms and strong to severe storms is when the race is over and fans are heading home or to camping. Heavy rain, lightning and strong to potentially damaging winds are possible.
While there is a small threat of showers and storms in the afternoon, it isn’t until late afternoon and early evening, I expect NASCAR to race and finish today.

2013 Dover International Speedway NASCAR Weather Forecast: Sunny, Hot and Humid
The weather forecast for NASCAR at Dover International Speedway has become completely dry but the heat and humidity continue. Today highs will be in the upper 80s but when you factor in how humid it will be like at least 90. There will be just a slight breeze out of the south between 5 and 15 mph.
Sunday, while a little cooler, is still very warm and humid. Afternoon temperatures will reach the mid 80s but with the humidity it will feel much hotter. The front that I was watching for the potential of an isolated shower or storm is slower so Sunday’s weather looks dry and mostly sunny. The only weather concern we have for Sunday’s Sprint Cup race is the heat and humidity. Enjoy the racing this weekend.

2013 Dover International Speedway NASCAR Weather Forecast: Mostly Sunny and Hot
The NASCAR weather forecast for this weekend at Dover International Speedway is mostly dry. It will be very warm with highs both today and Saturday in the upper 80s to even near 90 degrees. There will be plenty of sunshine and no worry of rain for the Camping World Series Truck race tonight or the Nationwide Series race on Saturday.
Sunday for the NASCAR Sprint Cup race looks mostly dry but an approaching cold front could spark some scattered showers and storms in the afternoon. Like most fronts that move through it all comes down to timing. Based on current forecast trends, we should be able to get the whole race in before any rain arrives. I am just leaving in the mention of showers developing afternoon into evening on Sunday

2013 Indianapolis Race Day Weather Forecast

While the threat of scattered afternoon showers and storms continue for the Indianapolis 500 today, there has been some improvement in the forecast models. The last two updates for this afternoon over the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has pushed the timing of potential showers more towards the evening than during the actual race.
I am going to keep the threat of scattered showers and storms in the Indianapolis 500 weather forecast for this afternoon as a warm front will be draped across central Indiana. Weather disturbances can ride along these boundaries like a train on tracks and spark areas of rain.
Do we get all 500 miles in today? I say the likelihood of getting the full 200 laps completed today are around 60%
Will there be any rain related delays? The odds of getting a rain related delay could be around 40% especially towards the afternoon.

A disturbance moving into North Carolina today will spread showers and thunderstorms across the state this morning and into the afternoon. Showers and storms expected to become more broken and scattered by the late afternoon and evening. This will need to be watched because this could cause potential weather delays for the NASCAR Sprint Cup All-Star race.
It appears much of the showers and storms will occur through the late morning into the early afternoon then becoming more broken and scattered during the evening. This still means showers and storms are a threat near the beginning of the All-Star race. With it being at night this causes issues with track drying since we won’t have the assistance of the sun to dry the track.
DO WE RACE TONIGHT?
I’d give the odds of getting a race in tonight around 50 to 60% but it could come with possible rain delays, especially towards the beginning. These kind of forecast are just tough because you can’t necessarily lock down timing or location of some of these showers and storms. This is what is challenging about these forecasts and knowing for certain if a race will happen or for how long. Will monitor it today and later tonight.

NASCAR 2013 Weather Forecast at Darlington Raceway: Storms Threaten Tonight
Conditions at Darlington SC:
Click here for Current Weather Conditions – Look at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar
Cold front approaching South Carolina today will increase the threat of scattered to isolated showers and thunderstorm this afternoon and evening. It is possible some of these storms could be strong to severe, with possible hail and gusty damaging winds. While lightning doesn’t make a storm severe, this is a danger when dealing with an outdoor activity like a NASCAR race. The rule for protecting yourself from lightning is if you can hear thunder, you can be struck by lightning. At the first sound of thunder, you should seek shelter and wait out the storm.
It will be mostly to partly cloudy today, temperatures this afternoon a little cooler, but still warm and muggy reaching the mid 80s. There will be a breezy southwest wind between 10 and 20 mph, but the main weather concern remains the threat of scattered showers and storms later today and tonight.
Hi-res computer model for 7 p.m. EDT this evening showing possible development of a line of showers and storms for this evening. This is not certain but it tells me that we will need to watch the radar before and during the race for possible storms that could cause delays.
This is the same hi-res forecast model for 9 p.m. EDT, this shows potentially large and strong storm moving into Darlington, SC. Again this is just one computer forecast models interpretation of what could happen. What it tells me is NASCAR and fans need to be prepared for possible rain delays.
Any storm that develops has the potential to be strong and even severe. The Storm Prediction Center has northeastern South Carolina in a slight risk for severe weather. This could mean storms could produce strong damaging winds and hail. With any threat of severe storms an isolated tornado is possible but very unlikely.
Given the scattered nature of these storms, the probability of a washout remains low. I still think it is at 30% or less. The odds for a possible delay or two has gone up a little to around 50% with the odds of getting an “official race” (reaching halfway or beyond) is still around 60%, and a complete rain free race is a little less between 40 to 50%.
With scattered showers and storms, you never know where they are going to form or go until they develop on radar. We saw that last weekend at Talladega, one minute the radar looks clear the next you have a rapidly growing storm that brings hail to the track and you have to wait out a 3 1/2 hour rain delay. I hope we don’t see that tonight, but delays are possible.
