NASCAR 2013 KANSAS RACE DAY FORECAST

NASCAR 2013 Race Day Weather Forecast at Kansas Speedway: Mostly Dry Weather

0

Although there is a small chance of an isolated shower or two across eastern Kansas this afternoon, it appears to me that the Sprint Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway remains dry.

Weather forecast for today has mostly cloudy skies, with a few peeks of sunshine. Temperatures during the race and the afternoon will range from the low to mid 60s. Winds will be out of the south-southwest between 10 to 20 mph and there could be gust up to 25 mph. With warmer temperatures and a little more moisture an isolated shower or two could form. These kind of showers are always hard to pinpoint but while there is a chance I think we have an overall dry forecast for today’s race at Kansas Speedway.

2012 Kansas Speedway Weather Forecast: Rain Drops Saturday?

1

FORECAST UPDATE SATURDAY 4 a.m. EDT (4/21/2012):

Most of the time this weekend at Kansas Speedway it will be mostly dry but there’s just a very slight chance of a passing sprinkle or shower later today.

Weak disturbance coming out of the northern plains will clip the region as it moves to the southeast during the day. Clouds will increase and could possibly produce a brief passing sprinkle or maybe a shower. Most of the day Saturday should be rain free and I wouldn’t be surprised if the entire time was dry.

The rest of the time will feature sun and clouds with cool spring temperatures. Both today and Sunday highs will be in the upper 60s to near 70. There will be a slight breeze Sunday with gust near 20 mph.

2012 Kansas Speedway Weather Forecast: Poss. Strong Storms Thursday Nice Looking Weekend

1

FORECAST UPDATE THURSDAY 1 a.m. EDT (4/19/2012):

The only weather concern for Kansas Speedway is Thursday afternoon. Practices for NASCAR Sprint Cup and Camping World Truck Series don’t start until Friday but for those around on Thursday evening some storms that form could be strong and potentially severe. The main threat with any storms would be large hail, damaging winds, and even an isolated tornado or two. If severe weather presents itself I will keep you updated.

Most of the stormy activity should take place out ahead of an approaching cold front. Once the cold front moves through Thursday night, it will be breezy and significantly cooler for Friday and the weekend.

Friday through Sunday looks like great weather for NASCAR racing. The only issue I can find is it will be cool. Lows each morning will be in the 40s and highs only getting into the upper 50s on Friday to the upper 60s to near 70 on Sunday. Each day features mostly sunny skies with the only windy day on Friday. Enjoy the weekend.

FORECAST UPDATE SATURDAY 2:00 AM EDT:
I am going to take the mention of showers out of the forecast for Sunday. The next system will be close, causing strong showers and storms in western and central Kansas over the weekend. A large area of high pressure located in the eastern United States will keep those showers and storms from moving into Kansas City until Sunday night. It will be warm with temperatures in the low to mid 80s and also very windy on Saturday as gust could reach 30 mph

FORECAST UPDATE Thursday 2:00 PM EDT:

General thinking for this weekend at Kansas Speedway is it is mostly dry. It will be windy as a strong trough coming out of the Pacific northwest interacts with a ridge of high pressure currently over the Ohio Valley. Some wind gust could be 30 to 40 mph. Where the ridge and trough collide there will also be shower and storm development through the center of the country. Many of the models bring the rain to central Kansas and then stall it for the weekend. There are a few that bring it closer to eastern Kansas.

I feel the rain is a little too close for comfort. That is why I decided to mention it on Sunday when other forecasts are not. Like last week, the same places (AccuWeather, Weather.com and National Weather Service) had dry weather for Dover on Sunday. NASCAR got the race in but there were a couple of cautions due to light sprinkles. Just because I mention rain doesn’t mean it will happen I just feel it is important that you know exactly what I see and think, along with all scenarios possible for the upcoming race weekend.

2011 Weekend Weather Forecast for Chicagoland Speedway and Kansas Speedway

There is some unsettled weather expected across parts of the Midwest this weekend. Although there is a very small risk of an isolated storm in Kansas today most of the activity will be north and to the east. This also includes Chicagoland Speedway for tonight’s Nationwide Race. There is a slight risk for severe weather for Chicago where storms could produce large hail, damaging winds and an isolated tornado. If you are headed Chicagoland be prepared and keep an eye to the sky.

For Kansas, it is mainly going to be hot with temps into the 90s for highs both Saturday and Sunday. As mentioned above there is a chance of an isolated storm but I don’t see much that would or should cause any problems the rest of the weekend.

Saturday:
1:00 p.m CDT
Truck Race – Sun and Clouds, isolated storm, mainly dry – temp: 91
3:30 p.m CDT
Nationwide Qualifying – Clouds & Sun, possible showers & storms – temp: 90
7:00 p.m CDT
Nationwide Race – Mostly cloudy, possible showers and storms – temp: 86

Sunday:
FORECAST: Another summer weekend for this NASCAR weekend. It will be dry, mostly sunny and hot as highs reach the low 90s.
12:00 p.m CDT
STP 400 – Mostly sunny, very warm – temp: 88
