NASCAR 2013 NATIONWIDE IOWA FORECAST

2013 Iowa Speedway NASCAR Nationwide Race Day Weather Forecast Take 2

Rain washed out Saturday night’s NASCAR Nationwide race, so they will try it again today before the NASCAR Sprint Cup race in Pocono. While here are no weather problems for the Sprint Cup series, rain remains a concern for the Nationwide race this morning in Iowa. Storm system moving though the region will keep the threat of rain through the start of the race, with scattered showers and storms possible in the afternoon. While the rain threat continues for Iowa and the Nationwide race, I think NASCAR has a better shot of getting the Nationwide race in today, but don’t be surprised if there’s at least one rain delay or possible threat from a shower or storm.

NASCAR 2013 NATIONWIDE IOWA FORECAST

2013 Iowa Speedway NASCAR Nationwide Race Day Weather Forecast

Need to hit refresh to refresh the Radar image…

I will admit I messed up this NASCAR Nationwide forecast. I spread myself out to thin this week and I overlooked when the race in Iowa was going to run. I was looking at afternoon not Saturday night. As of noon EDT (11:00 a.m. CDT) rain was already in the western part of Iowa moving slowly towards Iowa Speedway. Anticipate rain showers arriving sometime between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. EDT (5 p.m. and 7 p.m. CDT).

Once the rain and thunderstorms arrive, it could cause a long delay or possibly postpone the race. It will all come down to when the rain arrives and it’s not looking all that promising. To tell the truth, I am not as optimistic about the forecast this evening now given all I am looking at. The odds of getting this race completely finished or to halfway is around 30 to 40%. Bottom line it is going to come down to when the rain arrives later today or this evening.

IOWA NASCAR WEATHER FORECAST

2012 NASCAR Nationwide Iowa Speedway Weather Forecast: Chance of Storms Sunday

0

FORECAST UPDATE THURSDAY 4:30 a.m. EDT (5/17/2012):
Main concern for the NASCAR Nationwide Series at Iowa Speedway this weekend is the chance of thunderstorms Sunday afternoon. I don’t think we are looking at a washout but rain could be a factor if we get some of these showers or storms.

Saturday’s weather for practice and qualifying looks great, warm with lots of sunshine. It will be breezy with gusts of 25 mph out of the south. High temperature on Saturday will be in the mid 80s with upper 70s to near 80 possible on Sunday depending on how much sunshine we see.

FORECAST UPDATE SATURDAY 3 AM MDT:

Good news and bad news when it comes to the weather this weekend in Pocono. There will be morning fog and as the day wears on Saturday the threat of showers and storms increases. This could put a damper on the Truck race Saturday afternoon but because qualifying for Sprint Cup is in the morning it has a better chance of getting in. The rain and storms will be more numerous Saturday night into Sunday morning. There is still a threat for storms and showers Sunday. It doesn’t look like a wash but there is still enough of a threat to be a little nervous and approach with caution.

As for Iowa Speedway, like Pocono some patchy morning fog other wise sun and clouds and not as hot

FORECAST UPDATE Thursday 4 AM MDT:

The “Tricky Triangle” features another tricky forecast. As of right now it doesn’t look good as a storm system will be crossing central Pennsylvania Saturday into Sunday. First it will lift a warm front through followed by a cold front on Sunday night. The time in between will be unsettled with showers and storms, some potentially strong. This forecast will need to be monitored. Along with the threat of storms Saturday and Sunday it will turn hot and humid on Sunday as well.

As for Iowa Speedway, the central plains will finally get a break from all the heat and steam this weekend. There could be an isolated shower or storm but in my professional opinion not enough of a concern for Nationwide activities.
