Budweiser Shootout weather forecast at Daytona International Speedway this evening is looking good. There is a small chance of an isolated shower or two but I don’t expect any activity to cause problems this evening. Watching a cold front that is expected to move through Florida Sunday morning into early afternoon. This is the best chance for rain this weekend. It also coinsides with Sprint Cup qualifying. If it rains the weather improves later in the afternoon and Monday and Tuesday look like beautiful days with plenty of sunshine and cool, comfortable temperatures.

Rain showers that were south of Daytona International Speeday Friday evening will eventually begin to work back north Friday night and during the day Saturday. The reason for this is because a storm system passing to the north and will lift a stalled boundary bring the rain with it back over the track Saturday morning and afternoon. This will continue to keep the threat of rain around for Daytona 500 practice Saturday morning and afternoon.

Saturday night the threat of rain begins to decrease. There is still a chance of a few scattered or isolated showers but it looks dry for Saturday evening. A cold front will move through Sunday, keeping  a threat of rain and possible storms for the time of Daytona 500 qualifying.

SATURDAY:

Rain looks like could threaten Budweiser Shootout practices Friday evening at Daytona International Speedway. A front will push south during the day Friday and then stall across the Northern Pennisula of Florida. This will allow for showers and scattered thunderstorms to form during the afternoon and evening. The likelihood of seeing rain during this time near or around the track is 50 to 60 percent. Unfortunately I can not say whether or not practice will get canceled and I hope it doesn’t but the possibility of rain should be factored in if you are planning to attend practice on Friday evening.

For Saturday’s Budweiser Shootout, the good news is the threat of rain for Daytona International Speedway becomes less and less as we go through the day into the evening. The threat becomes more scattered to isolated as a storm system passes to the north lifting the stalled boundary that will trigger rain on Friday. Although there is a slight chance of a shower on Saturday it is less likely than Friday. If it were my call to go to the Shootout on Saturday based on this forecast I would go.

NASCAR first and biggest race of the season, the Daytona 500, is still over a week away but NASCAR is back at the Daytona International Speedway with the Budweiser Shootout this Saturday. Of course with NASCAR back in town and the Southeastern US from Georgia to Florida experiencing drought that only means NASCAR has brought rain with it. Before you get worried that rain will wash out all activities this week and this weekend keep it in mind these are low chances and more hit or miss type showers.

Boundary will stall across the Panhandle and northern Floriday on Friday. Along this boundary a few disturbances will move through and could spark a shower or two Friday into Friday night. On Saturday, a storm system will ride along this boundary and then move to the north-northeast into southern and central Georgia. Timing and location of this storm Saturday night will be key to when rain arrives Saturday night. It will be warm and noticably humid Friday into Saturday and most of  the time is expected to be dry. As the storm moves and passes to the north a weak cold front will slide through Saturday night. Right now, it appears that the front slides through late Saturday night into early Sunday morning. If that timing holds then that is good new for the Shootout.

Bottomline: This is NOT anykind of washout, but chances of rain Friday and Saturday are there but like I mention above it is hit or miss with lots of dry time during the day.
