NASCAR 2013 Weather Forecast at Talladega Superspeedway: It’s Going to Rain
Cold front associated with an upper level cold core low will slowly work across the state of Alabama today. This will keep Talladega Superspeedway wet for most of the day. Rain will slowly end from the west to east as we head into the early afternoon. Temperatures will also be extremely cold for May. Temperatures across Alabama today will remain in the 40s.
SATURDAY’S NATIONWIDE RACE: The above image is from the high resolution NAM weather model for 3pm EDT over eastern Alabama. This is what has me concerned for the Nationwide race scheduled at 3 p.m. EDT. It will all come down to when the rain finally clears out later this afternoon. If it clear out between 1 and 4 p.m. then we could have a delayed race. Unfortunately some forecast models keep the rain around eastern Alabama through the late afternoon and into the evening hours. Because the Nationwide race comes down to the timing of the rains exit it could be delayed or it could be postponed. I can’t call it a washout because we do expect clearing to take place later in the day. This is a toss up.
SUNDAY’S SPRINT CUP RACE: This forecast is more complicated. Today we are tracking a band of showers across the state and there is a beginning and an end. For Sunday, the center of this upper level storm system is right over Alabama. This will cause a very unstable atmosphere. An unstable atmosphere will lead to the development of scattered showers.
Imagine dumping a bag of marbles on to the floor but before you do, predict where each marble will go and eventually stop. That is the challenge meteorologist have in predicting scattered showers. We know that showers will form as the day goes on but we don’t know necessarily when and where they will form and move after they form.
Here is the high resolution NAM for 2 p.m. on Sunday, one hour after the scheduled start of the race. The center of the storm system will be right over central Alabama and areas of scattered showers will form close to the center. This model has rain right over Talladega Superspeedway at this time. It doesn’t necessarily mean that exact scenario is going to happen. What it does mean is we could see weather delays through out the afternoon. It all depends on where the rain forms and where it goes.
The probability of seeing an official race is around 45 to 55 percent. It’s not high but I think it is possible. I have seen far worse rain forecast than this produce at least an official race. (ending the race anytime after halfway). I would say the odds of a complete race is around 40 percent at this given time. Maybe it’s the fan in me, but I am holding out hope that we can at least get this race in on Sunday.
Temperatures will remain chilly for Sunday. Afternoon temperatures will be in the mid to upper 50s. Because the air over Alabama will be colder than average, it is possible that some of the showers and even storms that form Sunday could contain small hail.

NASCAR 2013 at Bristol Motor Speedway Weather Forecast: Nervous About Rain this Weekend
0Unlike Vegas where we got the rain out of the way early, rain could be a problem for Saturday and Sunday at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Cold front drops in from the north Saturday into Sunday and then stall over the Tennessee Valley. This will provide the focusing mechanism for the development of scattered showers both days. I don’t like the looks of this forecast but I am not calling it a wash. The odds of this being a wash at this point is about 45%. I will be tracking the rain and developing rain this weekend. Definitely feel like we will have delays Saturday and Sunday thanks to to rain. If I was going I’d still go, prepare for the worst by bringing my rain gear and hoping for the best.
The images above are the current computer models for Sunday afternoon. As you can see through eastern Tennessee there is a lot of green representing rain. Rain is definitely in the forecast and should have some impact on weekend activities. Like I said above, I am not calling this a wash but rain gear this weekend is a must

NASCAR 2013 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Weather Forecast: Rainy Start to the Race Weekend
0A Pacific storm system moving across Southern California and Southern Nevada into Arizona and Utah will spread scattered showers across Las Vegas today. These showers will be off and on all day and could cause delays and possible cancellations of for Sprint Cup and Nationwide practices as well as Sprint Cup qualifying in the afternoon. Afternoon temperatures will also be chilly as temperatures range from 50 to 55 degrees.
Storm system moves to the east Friday night towards the Four Corners taking the rain showers with it. High pressure builds in from the north bringing more sunshine for Saturday. It remains cool, with highs only in the low 60s. The same high pressure brings sunny skies for Sunday and great weather for the Sprint Cup race, afternoon temperatures will be in the mid to upper 60s.

NASCAR 2013 Daytona 500: How Will Rain Impact Sunday’s Race?
0The weather forecast for Sunday’s Daytona 500 hasn’t changed much in the last forty-eight hours. The forecast continues to show a chance of scattered rain showers and even an isolated thunderstorm for Sunday afternoon.
DO WE RACE SUNDAY? Yes, I think we race Sunday and it is official meaning we don’t race on Monday. That could also mean a rain shortened race, but at this point I am still around 70% confident we see a complete Daytona 500.
WHAT ARE THE ODDS WE HAVE A TOTALLY RAIN FREE RACE? This is a little harder to answer. It’s possible but based on the forecast I’d say the odds of a totally rain free race is somewhere between 30% and 40%.
WILL WE SEE ANY RAIN DELAYS? Anytime rain is in the forecast for a NASCAR race there is absolutely a possibility of a delay. I think at least one delays is very possible. It comes down to where will all the rain showers and thunderstorms develop and where will the move once they form? We won’t know that until they show up on radar. As you will see me say many times this NASCAR season, “It’s not the rain you see you need to worry about it’s the rain you don’t.”
WHAT’S MONDAY’S FORECAST? I honestly don’t think there is a need for this forecast but people have asked so I thought I’d mention it. It looks about the same as Sunday. Scattered showers and possible thunderstorm.

NASCAR 2013 Daytona 500: Will Sunday’s Race be Washed Out?
0Weather remains fairly quiet today and tomorrow as NASCAR prepares for Sunday’s Daytona 500. Warm temperatures are expected as we go through this afternoon and into Saturday. Highs will reach the low to mid 80s and it will even be a little humid. The only weather concern we have the next two days will be a slight chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm on Saturday for the Nationwide Series race in the afternoon.
The main weather focus for this weekend at Daytona International Speedway is for Sunday’s 55th running of the Great American Race. Cold front moves in across northern Florida Saturday night and into Sunday, bringing a chance of rain and even a few thunderstorms. The front stalls over Daytona Beach on Sunday, and this will be the focusing mechanism for shower and storm develop during the afternoon and evening.
Since Wednesday the threat of rain has continually increased over northern and central Florida. While I stop short of calling a second straight rain out for the Daytona 500, there could definitely be some rain delays during the day, and possibly even rain shortened. The new Air Titan drier at Daytona International Speedway may be put to the test.
My odds of us seeing the complete Daytona 500 on Sunday is between 50% and 60%. I don’t like the trend I am seeing in the forecast, but it doesn’t look like a washout. I think we will see scattered showers and thunderstorms form through the morning and into the afternoon. When I say scattered showers, imagine dropping a handful of marbles onto the floor and they scattered all over the place. You don’t know where they will go and stop but they are there all over the floor. That’s the challenge of forecasting this kind of rain.

NASCAR 2013 Daytona 500: Rain Chances Increase for the Weekend
0Unlike other sports, NASCAR starts its season with their premiere event, the Daytona 500. Weather is always a concern for NASCAR, but of all the weather forecasts I do during the year, this is the most important . In the 54-year history of the Great American Race, the Daytona 500 has only ran once on a Monday and that was last year. The question is, will history repeat itself?
Weather forecast for today’s Budweiser Duel is quite nice. Plenty of sunshine with temperatures this afternoon in the low to mid 70s.
Rain chances are on the increase for Daytona International Speedway Friday through Sunday. Friday’s rain threat is minimum as a weak surface disturbance passes by late in the day and into the evening. I think just a slight chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm Friday afternoon and evening, but shouldn’t impact the Camping World Truck Series race.
Saturday, a cold front presses closer to north and central Florida during the afternoon. Like Friday, there is a slight chance of an afternoon shower or even an isolated thunderstorm. Although the chance of rain is worth mentioning, Saturday afternoon’s Nationwide Series race should remain mostly dry with just a very small chance of a delay.
Cold front slides through and stalls close to Daytona International Speedway on Sunday. Rain chances have increased over the last few days, enough to mention the chance of a shower during the Great American race. This worries me some, but at this point I am confident in thinking we will see the 55th running of the Daytona 500 on Sunday. I am stopping short of saying the race is totally dry. Stalled cold fronts that close to an event always make me nervous. Couple miles shift north or south with these boundaries could mean the difference between a totally dry race, and a rain delayed race. Probability of seeing a race on Sunday, better than 70%.

NASCAR at Homestead 2012 Weather forecast: Small Chance of Showers
0Stalled front just off the eastern coast of Florida will keep a small threat of showers across southeast Florida today and even into Sunday. Although there is a threat of showers, it doesn’t look to be anything that would delay or postpone any races.
We will see a mix of sunshine and clouds today but with that stalled boundary just off to the east, a stray shower can’t be ruled out. It will be nice and warm with highs near 80 degrees.
Sunday’s Sprint Cup finale looks mostly dry and mostly sunny. An isolated showers could form late in the day, but I am confident that any shower that may form won’t cause any massive problems. I still expect mostly dry conditions this weekend.
