FORECAST UPDATE Friday 10 PM EDT:
The forecast is looking dry this weekend. The best shot for any rain would develop late Saturday afternoon into the evening with showers and a few thunderstorms. The good news the activity should be over before morning on Sunday. The other big weather story will be how hot it will be. Temperatures could reach 90 by the afternoon. If you are going to the Indianapolis 500 stay hydrated with water and stay cool.

FORECAST UPDATE Thursday 12 PM EDT:
If you have followed the Indianapolis 500 for any length of time then you know that the weather during the month of May can be just as wild, if not more so, than the action on the track. We experienced that with the showers and storms last weekend during pole day and bump day. Although there is rain in the forecast today and again late on Saturday, overall we have a good forecast for Carb day on Friday with a mixture of sunshine and clouds and for Sunday’s Indianapolis 500.
I do think Sunday will be mainly dry, very warm as high temperatures reach the upper 80s, but there is enough indication from some of the computer forecast models that an isolated shower or storm could pop up. At this current time, I am not too concerned about rain for the 95th running of the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing”

WEDNESDAY: Cloudy, diminishing rain this afternoon, possible peeks for sunshine.
Wind: SW 10-20 mph
High: 80
WEDNESDAY EVENING: Clearing skies, still breezy.
Wind: West 5-15 mph
Temps: 67-72
FORECAST DISCUSSION UPDATED 11AM EDT TUESDAY:
Looks like the rain is beginning to end around Eldora Speedway in Western Ohio. A few showers could linger into the afternoon. They should be fairly light and then all together late afternoon into the evening. Evening is dry, skies becoming partly cloudy to mostly clear. Weather won’t be an issue for the race tonight, but the question is how can they get the track ready with the rain from overnight and this morning.

WEDNESDAY: Mix of clouds and sunshine, showers & thunderstorms likely, mainly in the morning.
Wind: SW 15-20 mph
High: 82
WEDNESDAY EVENING: Clearing skies, still breezy.
Wind: SW 15-20 mph
Temps: 67-72
FORECAST DISCUSSION UPDATED 8AM EDT TUESDAY: Not much has changed in the forecast since yesterday. Showers are still expected during the first half of the day for Western Ohio. The storms system has lifted more north on current model runs so instead of being the storm it will be the cold front that brings showers and thunderstorms to the region. I expect improving weather once the rain ends and skies will be partly cloudy to mostly clear for the evening. A lot have asked me will the crews at Eldora be able to get the track ready after all the rain. This I don’t know. Preparing a dirt track is out of my realm of expertise. FORECAST DISCUSSION UPDATED 9AM EDT MONDAY:
There will be a weak storm system moving through the Ohio Valley Wednesday morning, this should be through and out by the afternoon. Maybe a lingering shower early afternoon but the good news is that the forecast looks dry for the main event on Wednesday night.

Forecast for the 94th Running of the “Greatest Spectacle” in Racing Indianapolis 500:
It will be a hot and humid Indiana day. Most of the race is dry and this is a mainly dry forecast. The only thing that will need to be watched will be the possible development of an isolated shower or storm across southern and central Indiana. The heat, moisture and instability are there but lack a trigger to fire these storms. I expect if any activity will fire it will after 3pm. Any shower or storm will be short lived but slow. Just because we mention a shower or storm doesn’t mean it will hit the track. What I think is there will be some firing up and all though the likelihood of a storm hitting the track is low it is possible.

Forecast for the Coca-Cola 600:
It is going to be a hot and humid North Carolina day. Stay cool, drink lots of fluids and non alcoholic beverages, wear sunscreen because the UV index will be “Very High” or 9 out of 15. Through the morning there have been scattered showers and storms into southern South Carolina south of US 26. We could see some isolated storms or showers later this afternoon into the evening. It is similar to Indy with the lack of a trigger for these storms and although the risk is low it is still there but I really feel confident that both races will get through with little to NO IMPACT from rain. I just feel that there is a high enough risk to mention an isolated shower or storm.

Forecast for the 94th Running of the “Greatest Spectacle” in Racing Indianapolis 500:
It will be hot and humid in Indianapolis today, no problems with the start of the race the only thing we will be watching is the possibility of isolated showers and storms dotting the Central Indiana landscape after 3pm this afternoon. They will be few and far between with more miss than hit but it is possible that one of those lone showers or storms forms near or over the track during the race but the odds of getting 500 miles in is very good. Just be hydrated and drink lots of water if you are going to be out at the track this afternoon.

Forecast for the Coca-Cola 600:
Finally no threat of rain, the green flag is scheduled to wave sometime after 6pm but before that it will be another hot and humid North Carolina day. Stay cool, drink lots of fluids and non alcoholic beverages, wear sunscreen because the UV index will be “Very High” or 9 out of 15. Temperatures at the start of the race should be in the mid to upper 80s. By the checkered flag near 80 or the upper 70s but remaining very muggy with a few more clouds.
11am Update: I am just going to mention that an isolated shower/storm could form later in the evening around the track. Very similar to yesterday but as we saw no rain impacted the Nationwide Race. I think we are good it is hot and humid and those factors can lead to a few showers and storms (isolated at best)

FORECAST DISCUSSION Saturday 11:00 am EDT:
This is a mostly dry forecast for Sunday. There will be moisture creeping back into Central Indiana during the afternoon on Sunday. There is a small risk and threat for an isolated storm or two to form near or around the track later in the afternoon, probably from 3pm on. This will need to be monitored but I think the odds of getting all 500 miles in look very good. Will monitor it during the afternoon tomorrow.

FORECAST DISCUSSION Friday 8:00 am EDT:
I am sticking to my guns and keeping this forecast through today’s Carb Day until the end of the 94th running of the “Greatest Spectacle” in racing dry. I have seen a few forecast for Indianapolis that are calling for some isolated to scattered showers late in the afternoon on Sunday. At this point I still feel like rain is not a threat for the race and they will get all 500 miles in. It will be warm so if you’re going to the track on Sunday bring lots of water and have the sunscreen
